During the latest 20 years, we witnessed a great technical development that had never happened before. In 1989, the "world wide web" was invented, which is called "Internet" and represented by: www. This invention made a great change in human's life. The internet changed the very old conceptions which had not been changed centuries ago. It made the whole universe just a tiny screen.
It put an end to the information monopoly in the Arab world which was limited to the government's media and London radiobroadcast. It makes it so easy to get information, it offers new readable, visual, and reactive systems, it put an end to man-man censorship and strengthens the censorship of conscience. So, as a logical result, some sectors do not like that as they have to re-arrange all their plans and work systems to go side by side with the strange objects coming from space, which now wandering in our streets, homes, and even our bed rooms.
In spite of these all changes, the Arabian culture never changed. Its fundaments had never been changed since the ancient times. Our cultural institutions have done nothing to go side by side with the enormous development. What have we done to develop the archives, postman, and sending pigeons into satellite broadcast, video conference and remote culture? Our institutions did nothing for libraries, museums, education, galleries, and the public culture.
How can culture deal with the recent challenges that changed the traditional concept of culture about knowledge, which was limited in just books for more than 2500 years?
How can we deal with these very spread information that may inter with breathe, penetrate skin, how can we deal with a new sort of media called "Medinon", the popular foru, the electric press , which is considered for me as a second wife. Also there are the very odd chat speaking, Twiter generations, My Space, and Facebook which reached about 300 millions.
We should reform the culture work and its means, and make plans to deal with a pure technical culture. We should use the concept of "Smart Culture" to turn our huge Arabic heritage into electronic information. We should simplify culture by choosing materials for the common, vocational, specialist culture; to encourage people to wide their knowledge. We also should care about many sorts of culture that we neglected for a long time such as the narrative culture, audible culture, and the shorthand culture; which offers information in the form of small useful capsule.
In my point of view, the Ministry of Culture should be made similar to the Ministry of Communication that consists of electronic buildings, smart cities, remote sensing sets, and huge plats for satellite broadcast. Its employees are mainly technical and energy engineers wearing helmets and look like the spacemen.
What really worries me is what if another 20 years pass with no change in our Arabic culture, that insists on praising the camel and still arranging the competition of "Miss Camel" !
Our culture is gradually disappearing and turning into only an honored history in museums. Culture should be improved to go side by side with the improvement of society, otherwise; it may turn to be a hunted isolated island.
