One question for the Bush and Obama | Al Amir Kamal Farag

After the end of the term of US President George HW Bush (1989 1993), he visited Saudi Arabia in 2001 to attend the Jeddah World Economic Conference. According to my career as a journalist , I attended at the conference, which was an opportunity for me to meet with the international political figures such as German Chancellor Helmut Kohl, British Prime Minister John Major , and US former President Bill Clinton, USformer President Jimmy Carter, and the former French President Valery Giscard d'Estaing.

Minutes before the press conference in which Bush will speak, I prepared some questions to ask, and asked the interpreter of the conference, who was a quick-witted young Egyptian, to translateand ensure that the question would be asked to the man clearly.

The conference also indicates some economically topics, and the questions were limited to four. The colleagues began their questions, which were all kept pace with economic monotonous of the conference.

As for me, I decided to go out of their path. As President Bush, no matter how we disagree as a journalisticrich material of information, should not be ignored, and it is not cleverto ignore the man who led the second Gulf War in 1990 that liberated Kuwait, and destroyed the dreams of Saddam, and passed his mandate many of the challenges and momentous events.

When it was my turn to ask a question, a colleague translator by asking the question that was shocking on many levels and for everyone.:

The question is: After 10 years of the Gulf War and the embargo on Iraq, given the tragedies caused by the blockade.. Do not you think that the United States and the international community have to choose between two options: either the overthrow of Saddam, or reconciliation with Saddam?

The question was athunderboltto everyone, not only because it is beyond the subject of the conference, but because it is the first time for a journalist to raise the idea of "reconciliation with Saddam," even if it is for an option.
The response of President Bush, and exulted brightened according to the body language expressions, like a drowning thrown a lifeline. He was so bored talking in economy, and raised the odd question that encouraged him to talk about the most serious decision taken by the United States and Arab countries, a decision to liberate Kuwait from Iraqi invasion.
.

Bush began to answer the question and start talking, depicting the features of the scenes of the second Gulf War, and spoke about his contacts with Arab leaders, headed by King Fahd. He was apparently interested in that discussion, perhaps in order to deny the implicit accusation contained in my question, that it was his own responsibility, by a  way or another , the siege of the Iraqi people for more than 10 years.

Bush was speaking, everyone waslistening, because what he says is what he wants every journalist to know, and he finished off the speech, the photojournalist Jamal Shawishpicked us amemorial picture, that is still controversial till now. .

After the conference, I was surprised by the objections of my colleagues to ask this question, and fears of reactions, one of them told to me, he was a political editor of a newspaper in Jeddah: "the statements made by Bush would be the headlines tomorrow," and another said, "Sure, Al Jazeera will devote a space for these statements," another said " I felt worried, I went to my house that day, and my head is full with concerns. .

After a while of this meeting , specifically in 2001, George W. Bush took over (2001: 2009) the American presidency, and in 2003 America settled its option, and decided to overthrow Saddam Hussein, a momentous event that had serious repercussions on the Arab region, which is what made me worry from time for another, praying to Allah that I would not be a reason or reasons, after the shocking question posed by the US President Bush the father then "either the overthrow of Saddam, or reconciliation with Saddam ?.

Conclusion .. Saddam was thrown, and also did Iraq, and even 13 years, Iraq has reached the lowest point of the fall, where he became the focus of the most dangerous terrorist organizations in the modern era .. "ISIS" and others..

Today the same scenario is repeated in Syria. The world led by America besieging Syria five years ago, and demands to throw Al Assad regime and the Syrian people are suffering, where the number of its homeless people reached 11 million, and the number of its refugees now is 5 million..

Politicians are usuallyStupid have noinnovation, they are acting according to specific routines. They do not learn .., and people also do not learn, what happened in Iraq is strictly repeated in Libya, and now in Syria..

After 5 years on the siege of the Syrian people, which some of its women, unfortunately are forced to engage in prostitution to secure their families need, which remind me with the same old question to the former US President George W. Bush the father 15 years ago about Iraq, I need to re-ask again today to the current US President Barack Obama regarding Syria:

The question for the second time:

"After five years of the siege of the Syrian people .. Considering the tragedies caused by the blockade .. Do not you think that the United States and the international community have to choose between two options: either reconciliation or the overthrow Bashar ?
